Pre-calc Mortensen Brochure Technically, it's pre-calculus or linear algebra but the definition is simple how one variable affects another. The point is understanding something as simple as y = mx + b

Driving a simple equation from a set of ordered pairs. Shouldn't be something that causes consternation in pain. It's easy when you can see it.  On the next page, you'll even hear students say during tutoring, "OK now I understand it..."

i've been searching for a graphic (and i can't find it) from a vintage brochure that illustrates precalc and dy/dx using base ten blocks. It was a black background which made the blocks standout. It gave quick explanation. i can recreate it on the white board and you see the explanation several times on the next page. It would be nice to just have the illustration.   


This page needs work but the precalc page has severa hours of FUN video. Especially the ice cream cake factory with the SIngapore Crew...at one point i had the little boy laughing so hard he almost pee'd his pants.

McCrae is another character, the 35+ videos on his page are entertaining just to watch.  Use your Module IV paywall pass.

Meantime, this video shows you symbols and is about the third time they've seen it...several hours of explanation WITH base ten blocks on the next page...also simple sketches (iin the videos) to show understanding of dy/dx. 

And simple graphing concepts.

Pre-calc Graph linearDon't start with a fractional slope or rate, start with whole numbers. But this is great for teaching fractions. Axis not labeled and neither is the line. SLOPE = dy/dx = rise/run = rate. These concepts take time to get to know. Not memorize and forget.

Now that the concepts are understood the symbols make sense although a little confused at first because it had been two weeks since we had class and they were a little rust, but by the end of it it wasn't the precaculus it was the fact that they didn't have their multiplication facts down.

Can you see how knowing them makes this math easy.
